Work Detail | Closure of the road at Birla railway gate in Kurnool town, used by thousands of people for the last three months for construction of a railway under bridge, has irked the residents who are preparing to launch an agitation to project their plight. Large pits were dug and walls were built across the road on both sides of the railway gate months ago preventing movement of people and vehicles, but the bridge construction work has not made any progress, allegedly due to the negligence of officials. As a result, the residents of Krishnanagar, Abbasnagar, Sharinnagar, Ram Rahim Nagar, New Krishnanagar and Housing Board colonies are forced to take circuitous routes to reach the road on the other side of the railway track. The closure of the road has led to untold hardship to students, as school and college buses stopped coming and fall in business for shop keepers. . “It has become difficult to get 108 ambulances during emergency situations,” said G. Pullaiah, chairman of Pullaiah Engineering College. With no official being able to state when the work would be resumed and completed, amidst talk that the work was yet to get necessary clearances, the residents of the housing colonies, led by Mr. Pullaiah, represented to district Collector Ch. Vijayamohan at the grievance cell in Kurnool Collectorate on Monday. They appealed to the authorities to at least fill the pits and remove the cement brick walls until the work resumed with a time-bound schedule. |
