Work Detail | German packaging specialist Sonoco Europe has expanded its production sites for injection moulded rigid plastic packaging in its Zwenkau site, as part of a €8m (£6.8m) investment. As a result, the firm has added 25 new employees at the facility. Hockenheim-based Sonoco produces injection moulded rigid plastic packaging using advanced in-mould labelling technology at the Zwenkau site. Products include containers for spreads, sausage products, fish, and dairy produce as well as lids for rigid paper containers. “With the current investments we will further extend this lead and react to the rapidly increasing demand for modern plastic packaging in the food market,” said Sean Cairns, general manager and division vice president of Sonoco Consumer Products Europe. Sonoco claimed that its patented PermaSafe technology provides benefits for sterilised and pasteurised food to replace glass or tin cans. “Due to the PermaSafe technology, our plastic containers durability rivals that of tin cans,” said Sonoco sales director plastic packaging Andreas Rothschink. “At the same time they offer more decoration possibilities and higher convenience for consumers.” |
