Work Detail Pratt and Whitney Canada (P&WC) has delivered the 400th PW127G turboprop engine for the C295W aircraft produced by Airbus Defence and Space.

The engine is assembled at (P&WC's) Longueuil, Quebec facility and is the exclusive powerplant for the market-leading Airbus C295W maritime patrol and medium transport aircraft being offered for Canada´s Fixed-Wing Search and Rescue (FWSAR) program.

A total of 168 C295 aircraft have been sold to 23 different countries and the global fleet has logged more than 275,000 flight hours.

"Pratt & Whitney Canada has played a key role over many years in securing and maintaining the C295's dominant market position," said Antonio R. Barberan, Senior Vice President Airbus Defence and Space. "Every C295W is powered by engines that were assembled in Quebec. That means that today, the fruits of Canadian skills and expertise are working in the toughest and most remote conditions imaginable, be it the Arctic, deserts, mountains, or in storms far out at sea. Each engine we buy is the product of highly skilled jobs in Canada, representing the export of Canadian skills and expertise to the rest of the world."

The C295W boasts further Canadian content beyond its engines with simulators by CAE and electro/optical sensors by L-3 Wescam. All told, about 20% of the C295W is Canadian content. Additionally, and if successful with Canada's FWSAR program, Newfoundland-based Provincial Aerospace will provide in-service support for the C295W fleet through the AirPro partnership with Airbus Defence and Space, increasing Canadian participation significantly further.

The relationship between P&WC, Airbus Defence and Space, and its Airbus Group sister companies extends well beyond the C295W aircraft. P&WC produces auxiliary power units (APUs) for the A380 and A320 series of commercial jet liners, and PW206-B engines power the Airbus Helicopters H135 twin-engine helicopter. The PT6C-67E engine is used with Airbus Helicopters H175 and the PW100 engines powering the ATR42/72 regional turboprop aircraft have been procured through Airbus sourcing.

"We value our business relationship with the Airbus companies and we are proud of our reliable and dependable PW127G engine which has powered Airbus C295 aircraft for almost 20 years," said Maria Della Posta, Senior Vice President, P&WC. "We are delighted to join them in marking this important milestone."

"Airbus Defence and Space is committed to building long-lasting, export-oriented relationships with supplier partners. We believe we work with the best suppliers in the world, enabling us to build exceptional products," concluded Antonio R. Barberan. "We certainly consider that Canadian, and particularly Quebec companies like P&WC, are part of that equation. We look forward to continuing this relationship in the future, and especially to ensuring that P&WC's skills and expertise become an integral part of Canada's next FWSAR aircraft.
