Work Detail |
After announcing to set up a district hospital in the city in October 2015, the state government seems to have forgotten all about it. While the formalities at local level have been completed, the project has remained only on paper for want of Rs 30 crore funds from the state government. The bhoomipujan of the hospital was to be performed during the winter session of the state legislature in 2015. A source in office of guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule told TOI that the project has already received technical clearance and administrative approval from public health department. Nagpur Mental Hospital has handed over the land to health department. We are waiting for funds. The government has promised to sanction it through supplementary grants during winter session of state legislature, he said. Nagpur West MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, in whose constituency the proposed hospital is coming up, also confirmed these facts. The source in Bawankule''s office said that even through there were two full-fledged government medical colleges and hospitals in the city apart from a superspeciality hospital, a district hospital was required because the existing institutions were overburdened due to patients coming from all over central India. Patients from neighbouring districts of Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh come to these institutions for treatment. Consequently, patients of Nagpur district have to wait for a long time for their turn, he further said adding that many district headquarter cities and towns have a medical college as well as a district hospital. The district hospital is slated to come up on 8.90 acre land belonging to Nagpur Mental Hospital situated in mouza Jaripatka. This land is adjoining the mental hospital. The district hospital will have 100 beds. The office of civil surgeon will be shifted from Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) to the district hospital. The government medicine stock will also be kept in the hospital. The hospital will have a 100-bed general ward, X-ray, CT scan, MRI, operation theatre, intensive care unit (ICU), out patients department (OPD) and other facilities. Public works department (PWD) had prepared the estimate for the construction work and electrical fittings. This cost is around Rs 28 crore. After this work is complete, the public health department will prepare an estimate for medical equipment needed. Other than civil surgeon, the hospital would have a resident medical officer (RMO) and 16 to 17 doctors. The number of paramedical staff will be as per norms for a 100-bed hospital.
