Work Detail | Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak expressed, on Friday, Moscow’ hope to see the countries of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) “overcoming their divergences and achieving a compromise on the freeze in oil production.” “If OPEC reaches a consensus, we will be then ready to join to examine any proposal on the freeze in production. We hope that the divergences with the OPEC will be ironed out as soon as possible,” said the Russian minister following his talks with Algerian Minister of Energy Noureddine Boutarfa. Novak broached the holding, on 27 September in Algiers, of an informal meeting of OPEC’s member countries to discuss a possible freeze in production with this organization’s non-member countries. For his part, Algerian minister said that Algeria has, in this regard, “a proposal” that it will submit to the participants of Algiers’ meeting. “Our talks with our partners show that there is a consensus on the need to stabilize the market. It is already a positive point,” said Boutarfa, adding that Algiers’ meeting “may well lead to an understanding” of the players concerned by the issue. |
