The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) awarded the concession contract for the Huancayo-Huancavelica Railway project to the regional governor and the provincial and district mayors of Huancavelica. The document was signed last week of May by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Peruvian Railway Concessionaire SA (COFEPERU). The project, awarded by PROINVERSIÓN in August 2024 under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), will require a total investment of US$565 million, comprising US$445 million for modernization works and US$120 million for operations and maintenance over the first 10 years. It covers the design, financing, execution, acquisition of new rolling stock, and operation and maintenance of the railway along its 128.2 km. Highlights include the construction of a new maintenance workshop, drainage and slope protection systems, a complete renovation of the railway superstructure, and the addition of a modern signaling and communications system. In addition, seven stations and 20 bus stops will be renovated, including key points such as Chilca, Manuel Tellería, Izcuchaca, Mariscal Cáceres, Acoria, Yauli, and Huancavelica. This major project will be executed under a co-financed Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement, with a 30-year concession contract: five years for design and construction, and 25 years for operation and maintenance. |
