The Neuquén government signed the contract to begin a key project in the south of the province: the paving of Provincial Route 63, the section that connects National Route 40 with the town of Villa Meliquina. With an investment of more than $29 billion, the project seeks to strengthen the lakes tourism corridor, improve road safety, and enhance the territorial integration of this strategic area. The company CN Sapag SA will be responsible for the construction of the 19-kilometer stretch, which also includes the urban route within Meliquina. The project is expected to take 720 days to complete . Governor Rolando Figueroa described the project as a commitment to the future and represents the relaunch of a project postponed for years due to a lack of investment in road infrastructure. From a construction perspective, this paving is part of a strategy to transform traditional tourist circuits. Its no longer going to be the Seven Lakes Route; its going to be the Nine Lakes Tour, said Figueroa, highlighting the addition of Meliquina Lake and Lolog Lake as new accessible destinations thanks to the road improvements. The project will allow for faster and safer connections to San Martín de los Andes, the Mamuil Malal Pass, and other points of interest. The contract signing took place at an official ceremony attended by provincial authorities, legislators, and representatives of the business sector. The mayor of San Martín de los Andes, Carlos Saloniti, emphasized that the new route will have a direct impact on regional tourism: A paved road is pure promotion; it changes the traffic pattern and expands opportunities for the local economy. In addition to its tourist value, the project aims to improve traffic for residents, improve productive connectivity, and improve access to basic services. The province also highlighted the contrast with the national situation, marked by the halt in public works: While the national level is discussing halting investment, in Neuquén, necessary roads are being built with a vision for sustained development, Figueroa said. This project joins other strategic infrastructure projects in the region and strengthens Neuquéns position as one of the countrys leading nature destinations, now with improved access, traffic, and local development. |
