Work Detail The new phase of the project, led by Engie Energía Perú and located in the department of Moquegua, involves an estimated investment of $60 million and incorporates more than 88,000 solar panels in the south of the country. The Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) has granted Engie Energía Perú the definitive concession to develop the Intipampa Expansion Solar Power Plant, located in the district of Moquegua, province of Mariscal Nieto, department of Moquegua. Ministerial Resolution No. 194-2025-MINEM/DM authorizes the company to install a generating capacity of 51.7 MW using renewable energy resources and also approves the concession contract that regulates the rights and obligations of the parties during the development of the project. The Intipampa expansion represents the second phase of the Intipampa solar plant, which has been operating since 2018 with an initial capacity of 40 MW and 138,120 solar panels installed on single-axis trackers. This expansion includes the installation of 88,101 new high-efficiency monocrystalline photovoltaic modules, underground and overhead medium- and high-voltage electrical conduits, seven transformer substations, and a 50/62.5/75 MVA power transformer. The project also includes an energy collection network, a 138 kV transformer bay, switchgear and control buildings, as well as the adaptation of the perimeter fence and lighting and video surveillance systems at the existing electrical substation. The solar plant will be connected to the Intipampa electrical substation, owned by Engie, by extending the busbar at a voltage of 138 kV. The plants estimated production will reach 122 GWh per year, enough to supply nearly 90,000 homes in the south of the country. During the construction phase, local employment is expected to be generated, with an emphasis on hiring regional labor, as was the case in the first phase of the project, where 60% of the workers were from Moquegua. The total estimated investment for the Intipampa Expansion amounts to $60 million, according to company information. The project covers land in Pampa Lagunas, an area with high solar radiation. The selected panels have an efficiency of up to 23% and a maximum power of 620 Wp, with a projected lifespan of more than 25 years. The concession process included approval of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) amendment in 2024 and verification that the requested area does not affect the development of other electricity projects in the region. Engie Energía Perú, the local subsidiary of the French group Engie, currently operates more than 2.5 GW of installed capacity in Peru, including hydroelectric, thermal, and solar plants. Among its development projects, the 300 MW Hanaqpampa project , also under construction in the department of Moquegua, stands out.
