The Neuquén Provincial Government has launched a call for bids for a strategic road project: the expansion of the roadway on Provincial Route 67 , known as the oil route, which links the northern part of Neuquéns capital with the Vaca Muerta production area . With an official budget of $32.909 billion and a 24-month execution period , the project seeks to ease heavy traffic congestion and reduce road accidents in a key corridor for national energy development. The route will extend from the junction with the Autovía Norte highway to the intersection with Provincial Route 51 , consolidating an alternative route to Route 7 , which currently handles high levels of mixed traffic between Neuquén, Centenario, and Vista Alegre . This duplication is part of the comprehensive connectivity plan between the Confluencia and Cuenca Neuquina regions , jointly promoted by the Province and the capital municipality. According to Governor Rolando Figueroa , this project will not only improve road safety and travel times , but also responds to a direct demand from the hydrocarbon sector and frequent users of the route , who have pointed out the risks of the current traffic pattern at various sectoral meetings. The growing metropolitanization of the capital and the increase in traffic linked to the oil industry have transformed this route into a critical bottleneck. Provincial Route 67 was originally built as an auxiliary road to divert large trucks and free up urban traffic from Route 7. However, the acceleration of activity in Vaca Muerta and the urban growth of Neuquén made it necessary to resize its capacity. The planned expansion includes new lanes, modern signage, and additional works that will facilitate safe access to this strategic artery. The project is being funded with provincial funds , the result of a policy of administrative austerity implemented by the current government, which has redirected resources from non-priority areas to infrastructure, health, security, and education.
