Phase 1a upgrade to support floating wind and 1500 jobs Kishorn Port in the Scottish Highlands has secured up to £24m in public funding for a £42m expansion aimed at supporting floating offshore wind. The funding, announced by Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes, will be delivered by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and will underpin Phase 1a of the port’s development. The expansion includes dry dock enlargement and land reclamation to enable the manufacture of floating wind foundations using Kishorn’s on-site quarry. Once complete, the upgraded port is forecast to support up to 1,500 jobs across Wester Ross and the wider Highlands. During the 18-month construction phase, 84 jobs will be created. Kishorn Port Ltd said the development opens new opportunities in floating wind and decommissioning, with strong market interest already emerging. “This funding is key to us delivering the development, which will enable Kishorn to play a pivotal role in the delivery of offshore wind projects in Scotland and elsewhere,” the company said. Scottish contractor RJ McLeod will lead construction, with additional services provided by Wallace Stone, Affric and Leapmoor. |
