| Work Detail |
Phase II of the new route of Provincial Route 82, known as the New Pan-American Highway, is already 95% complete and is expected to be completed soon. This section connects the Western Corridor —at the Chacras de Coria roundabout—to the Gobernador Ortiz roundabout and represents a key corridor for traffic toward western Mendoza. The project, carried out by Paolini Hermanos , is practically operational. Traffic is now open in about ten minutes, although work is still underway to complete access roads, interchanges, additional asphalt pavement, and horizontal and vertical signage. The work is being coordinated by the Provincial Highway Directorate (DPV) and financed through an $80 million loan from the Inter - American Development Bank (IDB) . Currently, the entrance and exit ramps are being finalized in key areas such as Guardia Vieja and Besares , where the junction with collectors is also being completed. In addition, the final layer of asphalt is being laid , along with road markings: yellow and white lines, centerlines, horizontal signs, and pedestrian paths. Road Administrator Osvaldo Romagnoli explained that the remaining work is focused on complementary infrastructure , such as electrical connections, signage, lighting, and service connections, which are essential to ensuring the safety and functionality of the route. Stage II cost 46.2 billion pesos and is part of a comprehensive road development plan that continues with Stage III , currently underway. This new section extends from Gobernador Ortiz to the Cacheuta–Potrerillos tunnel spiral staircase and includes road widening , new illuminated return lanes , bus stops , a new bridge over the Mendoza River , and the enhancement of the town of Cacheuta . This highway not only improves the provinces metropolitan and tourist connectivity, but also forms part of a strategic axis for the development of western Mendoza, integrating residential, commercial, and recreational areas with high standards of road infrastructure. |
