This week, the Buenos Aires City Government began a comprehensive intervention on Caseros Avenue , in the section between Entre Ríos Avenue and Santiago del Estero , which entails the partial closure of one of the key arteries in the south of Buenos Aires. The works, which will affect traffic in the Barracas and Constitución neighborhoods , are part of the Avenidas Porteñas plan, an urban strategy that aims to revalue avenues as axes of mobility, economic activity, and public space . The project includes the construction of a tree-lined central boulevard , the addition of new street furniture, and improvements to pedestrian safety and traffic management . The local government reported that the main objective is to beautify and enhance the layout , incorporating elements that mitigate the heat island effect, especially during the summer months. Planned work includes: New pedestrian traffic lights at key intersections to optimize road safety. Improvements in public lighting , with LED technology for greater visibility and perception of safety at night. Demarcation of loading and unloading spaces , and strategic relocation of waste containers to improve urban hygiene and free up sidewalks. The intervention seeks to promote a more balanced use of public space, encouraging pedestrian circulation and dwell time , while maintaining the efficiency of vehicular traffic. The project is part of a comprehensive reconfiguration of the urban fabric on strategic avenues. In addition to Caseros, the Porteñas Avenues plan already includes similar projects on Avenida Independencia , and work is expected to begin soon on Avenida Pérez Galdós . In all cases, the projects respond to criteria of sustainable design, universal accessibility, and efficient vehicular and pedestrian flow. During the construction work, traffic detours and partial closures will be implemented , with special signage and roadside assistance.
