Expression of Interest are invited for Study to Support Business Development in the North and Northeast Regions of Brazil The Northeast and North regions of Brazil are characterized by significant socio-economic challenges, which make the provision of basic services such as water and sanitation particularly difficult. Furthermore, geographically, the North and Northeast face unique environmental and climatic challenges that exacerbate their socio-economic difficulties. The Northeast is highly susceptible to droughts, especially in its semi-arid interior, which significantly affects agricultural productivity and the availability of water resources. The regions water scarcity has led to the development of large-scale infrastructure projects like the São Francisco River transposition, but the impacts of climate change continue to threaten water security. The North, with the vast Amazon rainforest, faces a different set of challenges: the sheer size and remoteness of the region, combined with the complex ecological system of the Amazon, make infrastructure development and service delivery logistically challenging. Additionally, the Amazon plays a crucial role in global climate regulation, and the sustainable management of its resources is not only a national priority but also of global importance, requiring careful balancing of local needs with environmental preservation. Investing in the Northeast and North is not just critical for national development but also for regional stability and environmental sustainability. Given their strategic role in Brazils economic and ecological future, addressing the development needs of these regions through targeted investments, infrastructure, and policy initiatives is crucial. From a climatic perspective, enhancing resilience to droughts and improving water management in the Northeast, and ensuring the sustainable development of the Amazon in the North, will have long-term benefits for both Brazil and the world. A study focused on these regions can provide essential insights into how best to address these challenges, identify opportunities to increase WBG footprint in the region, mobilize private sector, and achieve improved living conditions for the local populations. IFC is searching for a consultant with an intrinsic knowledge of Brazils Northeast and North regions, to design, prepare and facilitate an IFC Study and Workshop to disseminate and synchronize ongoing business development efforts in the region.
