General Procurement Notice for Procurement of Goods and Works, and Acquisition of Consulting Services Implementation of Building Resilience for Food and Nutrition Security in the Northern Savannah Ecological Zone (BRFNS) Project development goal: The overall goal of the Project is to increase climate-smart local food production to enhance food and nutrition security for women, youth and vulnerable groups in 12 selected districts in the Savannah Zone. Specific Project objectives: (i) to increase the household food security and incomes of the smallholder farmers, (ii) support household nutrition, especially among the youth and vulnerable women-headed households, (iii) improve access of smallholder farmers to climate-smart agricultural inputs; (iv) enhance access of smallholder farmers to agricultural mechanization services through provision of handheld equipment; (v) provision of solar powered micro-irrigation kits for dry season farming; (vi) and promotion of household poultry production to enhance farmers access to nutritious food. The Project has the following components: a) Climate-resilient Agricultural Production for Women and Youth: This component seeks to provide training and drought-tolerant and early maturing seeds of maize, soyabean, rice, groundnuts, cowpea and vegetables to support production for improved household incomes and enhanced nutrition. This component will also seek to create an enabling environment for all-year-round vegetable production to improve income, food and nutrition security, Beneficiary smallholder farmers, particularly women, youth and first 1000-day households will be provided with climate-smart farm inputs (589Mt Seeds, 3,568Mt inorganic fertilizer and 100,000Ltrs agrochemicals) for the production of 30,800Ha maize, soya, rice, cowpea and groundnuts. In addition, extension services will be provided to cultivate the selected crops, Solar powered micro-irrigation schemes will be installed in 88 identified sites including selected secondary schools in the 12 selected Districts to support at least 5,000 beneficiaries (60% women & 30% youth). This is to ensure all year-round production for sustained food and nutrition security. Plots will be developed and seedbeds prepared and fenced for vegetable production sites to protect the fields from animals destruction, Handheld equipment such as self-propelled planters, threshers and garden tools to support farmer groups in their operations within the 12 selected districts.
