Quotation are invited for Data Analyst- Food System Challenge Closing Date: Monday, 24. Feb 2025 Intervention Sector(s): Training & Capacity Building Remuneration range: 1000 to 2000 (USD) Duration of Contract: N/A Context & Background Berytech is a leading organization in the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Lebanon, that aims to provide a conducive environment for the creation and development of startups, through incubation, business support, counseling, funding, networking, and company hosting, hence taking part in the economic revival of the country, participating in wealth and job creation, and retaining graduates and high-level skills in Lebanon. About FSC PROJECT The Food System Challenge supports businesses to solve core challenges of the food system in Lebanon, and more specifically in the sectors of dairy and meat production (cow, goat, sheep), cereals and pulses (and its by-products), protected horticulture (Classical green houses, hydroponics, and aquaponics), and domesticated edible herbs and plants. The Food System Challenge is implemented by the World Food Programme (WFP) and Berytech through support from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Throughout FSCs previous and current cycles, the program supported over 40 SMEs to fortify the Lebanese food system to create a more sustainable ecosystem. The program aims to address challenges faced by SMEs and their supply chains, particularly farmers and small producers, who are critical to ensure food security and economic stability. By understanding the challenges, attitudes, and needs of these farmers and small producers, the program seeks to develop targeted interventions that enhance production capacities, reduce costs, and support them in overcoming the ongoing economic crisis without resorting to negative coping mechanisms. To achieve this, a survey was conducted with up to 180 farmers and small producers who supply SMEs supported by the FSC program. The survey aimed to gather insights into: Challenges faced by farmers and small producers in dealing with SMEs, including issues related to pricing, payment delays, quality standards, and market access. Attitudes and agricultural practices of farmers and small producers, including their willingness to adopt new technologies, sustainable practices, and collaboration with SMEs. Technical and financial needs of farmers and small producers, such as access to affordable inputs, training, credit facilities, and infrastructure improvements. Other relevant information, including the impact of the economic crisis on their livelihoods, their ability to meet demand, and their perceptions of the FSC program. The findings of this survey will be used by Berytech and the World Food Programme (WFP) to design and implement interventions that support farmers and small producers, ensuring their sustainability and resilience in the face of economic challenges. Specifically, the insights will help: Improve production capacities and reduce costs for farmers and small producers. Address gaps in technical and financial support to enhance their productivity and profitability. Develop strategies to help them survive the economic crisis without abandoning the sector or resorting to negative coping activities. Strengthen the relationship between farmers, small producers, and SMEs to create a more resilient and sustainable food system.
