Engineering Design Services – Building 16.7 Dismantling And Renewal Of The Zkv Ii Cooling Tower System Tga Planning Services. The Re-Cooling Performance Of The Existing Cooling Tower System Is No Longer Sufficient, Especially At High Wet-Bulb Temperatures. This Increasingly Leads To The Safety-Related Shutdown Of Refrigeration Machine No. 1. Due To The Shutdown Of Refrigeration Machine No. 1, The Cooling Network Is Missing 2.5 Mw Of Cooling Capacity, Which Is Urgently Needed In Summer; Especially Taking Into Account The Increasing Demand For Cooling Due To Various New Construction Projects That Will Soon Go Into Operation. Furthermore, It Should Be Noted That The Zkv Ii Essentially Serves To Cool Down The Mainframe Computer In The Jsc And A Reduction In The Cooling Capacity Could Affect The Operation Of The Mainframe Computer In The Jsc In The Long Term. The Central Cold Water Supply Zkv Ii, Building 16.7, Was Completed In 2003. The Cooling Tower System 1.1/1.2 Was Designed With Far Too Low An Output In The First Construction Phase. The Design Of The Cooling Tower System 2.1/2.2 For Recooling The Refrigeration Machine No. 2 In The Second Construction Phase Was Already Equipped With A Higher Output And Does Not (Yet) Cause Any Problems At The Temperatures In Question. It Should Also Be Taken Into Account That The Design At The Time With A Wet Bulb Temperature Of 21°C No Longer Corresponds To The Current State Of The Art. In View Of The Facts, After A Thorough Examination, We Believe It Is Necessary To Dismantle The Cooling Tower System 1.1/1.2 As A Construction Maintenance Measure And Replace It With A More Powerful Cooling Tower System. The New Cooling Towers Will Be Designed For A Wet Bulb Temperature Of 23°C. This Increases The Exchanger Area And Thus The Cooling Tower Dimensions And Weight. The Existing Steel Substructure Must Be Adapted. Due To The Larger Exchanger Surface, Sufficient Heat Dissipation Through The Cooling Towers Is Achieved Even At Higher Summer Temperatures Than Previously In The Cooling Tower Design (Formerly: 32°C/40% Relative Humidity, New: 34°C/40% Relative Humidity). A Further Increase In The Wet Bulb Temperature Does Not Make Sense Because The Space Required, Weight And Investment Costs Of The Cooling Towers Increase Too Much. The Renovation That Was Originally Required Before The Summer Of 2016 Is Overdue And Could Only Now Be Designed For Capacity Reasons. The Structural Implementation Of The Measure Should Take Place At Times When Cooling Demand Is Low. The Temporary Standstill Of The Central Cooling Supply Ii Must Be Able To Be Carried Out By The Two Remaining And Operational Central Cooling Supply Systems (Zkv I And Zkv Iii), Otherwise Additional Costs May Arise For Mobile Rental Cooling. The Aim Of The Measure Is To Ensure The Central Cooling Generation Of The Research Center In The Medium And Long Term.
