Nov 2024 Intervention Sector(s): Water sanitation and hygiene Remuneration range: 2000 to 3000 (USD) Duration of Contract: 21 working days over 3-4 months Lebanon is currently facing significant challenges in public health and sanitation due to deteriorating infrastructure, fuel shortages, ongoing economic crisis and hostilities. These challenges disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, including the elderly, persons with disabilities (PWD), and those with chronic illnesses. In high-density areas such as Sahel and Wadi Khaled, particularly in communities hosting Syrian refugees, the situation has become more critical. Access to safe water and sanitation has been severely compromised, exacerbating health risks, especially for children under five. Water quality is being impacted by pollution, and the ability of local water utilities to meet demand is increasingly limited. Impossible is partnering with PCPM under the LHF-funded project to address unmet multi-sectoral needs in Wadi Khaled, Jered El Qaytaa and Sahel Akkar focusing on the most vulnerable populations, including Persons with Specific Needs (PwSN): person with serious medical condition, persons with disabilities, elderly and protection risks. As part of this project, Impossible will implement targeted awareness campaigns for direct beneficiaries, youth, and community members. These sessions, led by experts, will cover a range of topics including hygiene, sanitation, cholera prevention etc. By fostering a supportive environment and providing targeted education and resources, this project will empower youth, the elderly, and PWSN in Akkar to build resilience against community challenges and lay the foundation for a more secure and prosperous future. Purpose of the position: Im possible is dedicated to promoting health and wellness in communities through awareness. We are seeking an experienced Expert to deliver engaging and informative sessions on health, hygiene, Sanitation and Cholera and nutrition for Elderly, PwSN, caregivers and youth. Key Responsibilities: Design and deliver engaging, interactive, and accessible sessions focused on health, hygiene, sanitation, nutrition and cholera prevention. Topics should include: - Proper hygiene practices (handwashing, personal cleanliness, oral care, etc.). - Water and sanitation practices, including the safe handling of water. - Health education on preventing waterborne diseases. - Nutrition, especially for vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. In coordination with Im possible staff, identify and assess public health and hygiene risks in the communities. Prepare a detailed methodology and work plan indicating how the objectives of the project will be achieved. Create materials, including presentations, handouts, and interactive activities for Youth, Caregivers, elderly and PwSN. Adapt teaching methods and materials for persons with disabilities in a culturally appropriate manner while ensuring accessibility (e.g., sign language, visual aids, simplified language, etc.) and while providing insights on the latest health and hygiene guidelines and best practices. Facilitate discussions and encourage participant engagement. Collaborate with Im possible team to improve session content and delivery methods. Cooperation with WaSH Sector: Ensure the session content is aligned with the WaSH guidelines and unified messaging and that it complements other WaSH-related interventions being implemented in the area, such as distribution of hygiene kits and water quality improvement projects. Support the ImPossible team in tailoring the message to the unique needs of elderly and PwSN in the context of local water and sanitation challenges. Reporting: The Health & Hygiene Expert will report to the Protection Officer and Project Coordinator at ImPossible, in coordination with the PCPM Protection Officer and Project Coordinator and WaSH sector. Regular updates and progress reports will be shared to ensure alignment with overall project objectives. Deliverables: Submit a curriculum for the hygiene and health awareness sessions, tailored to the target groups. The curriculum should incorporate protection-related issues, multisectoral messages, and inclusive approaches for elderly and PwSN. Submit a methodology outlining the process and approach for delivering the sessions, with clear objectives, learning outcomes, and strategies for engagement. Develop presentations and training materials, incl. brochures, and interactive activities, ensuring that they are tailored to the specific needs of the targeted groups. Provide daily updates to the protection and project officer on project progress against work plan. Document and share lessons learned with the Im possible staff. Submit a final report summarizing the work completed, detailing challenges faced, and offering recommendations for future improvements. Geographical location of the project: Selected villages in Wadi Khaled, Jered Al Qayteh, and Sahel Akkar unions of municipalities in Akkar. Duration of the consultancy: A total of 21 working days over 3-4 months between December 2024 and March 2025, including 18 days for the awareness sessions implementations and 3 days for curriculum preparation and reporting. Qualifications The Health & Hygiene Expert should possess the following qualifications and experience: Bachelors degree in Public Health, Nursing or a related field; advanced degree preferred. At least 3 assignments/ proven years of experience in designing and delivering health and hygiene awareness sessions, with a strong focus on marginalized populations (elderly, PWSN). Proven experience in health and hygiene awareness sessions delivery and promotion. Ability to engage diverse audiences and adapt materials to different learning styles. Certification in adult education or training. Proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point, reporting tools, feedback tool Competencies Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Cultural competency and sensitivity to community needs. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Excellent presentation and communication skills with the ability to engage different groups (youth, elderly, PwSN) in a participatory and inclusive manner.
