Tank External Out Of Service Inspection: 1.#The External Inspection Must Be Conducted By An Authorized Inspector. 2.#A Complete Visual Inspection Shall Be Performed To Identify Any Surface Defect. 3.#The Main Purpose Of The External Inspection Is To Check The Foundation, Shell, Accessories And Roof. 4.#The Observations Shall Concentrate On Leakage From Under The Bottom, Shel L Settlement, Verticality, Shell Deformations (Flat Spots, Buckles Or Bulges), Corrosion Spots Etc. 5.#The Observations Should Inclu De The Condition Of Paint Work, Safety Of Stairs, Platforms And Handrails And Proper Functioning Of Service Equipment. 6.#Inspection And Monitoring All Leak Detection Systems, Cathodic Protection Monitoring Equipment Or Other Monitoring Or Warning Systems W Hich May Be In Place At The Facility. 7.#Verify Wall Thickness Then A Suitable Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement Technique Shall Be A Pplied. 8.#When There Is Concern That There May Be Cracking In Welds Or In Other Parts Of The Tank Then The Defects Shall Be Verifie D By Applying An Appropriate Non-Destructive Testing Technique, E.G. Radiography Or Ultrasonic Test, Dye Penetrant Or Magnetic Parti Cle Examination. 9.#Surface Corrosion, Weld Defects Or Coating To An Extent, Which Could Affect The Integrity Of The Tank Shall Be I Nspected By Appropriate Methods. 10.#The Tank Shell Shall Be Inspected For Signs Of Deformation (Flat Spot, Buckle Or Bulge), Leakag E Or Corrosion Of Bottom Edge And Shell Plates. 11.#Stiffening Rings To Prevent Buckling Due To Wind Loads And High Thermal Stresses At Low Ambient (Winter) Temperatures Should Also Be Checked. 12.#Before Stepping Onto The Roof Of A Cone-Roof Tank A Visual Check S Hall Be Made For External Corrosion Or Holes.
