Tank Inservice Inspection: 1.#In-Service External Inspection To Be Carried By An Authorized Inspector. 2.#The External Condition Of The Tank Shall Be Monitored By Close Visual Inspe Ction From The Ground. 3.#Visual Inspection Of The Tank Exterior Surfaces, Stair, Roof, Area Of Wear, Shell Distortion, Corrosion, F Oundation & Sign Of Settlement. 4.#Check The Periphery Of The Tank Foundation For Any Signs Of Product Leakage All Around The Periph Ery Of The Tank, This May Be An Indication Of A Leak Near The Center Of The Tank Or A Number Of Leaks Spread Over The Bottom. 5.#Dew A In Service Inspection Check List To Be Filled Addition To The Standard In Service Inspection Report. 6.#Dewa In Service Inspection Check List To Be Reviewed And Inform Dewa If Any Alteration/Up Gradation Is Required In Service Inspection Check List Document As P Er Api Standard. Tank External Out Of Service Inspection: 1.#The External Inspection Must Be Conducted By An Authorized Inspector. 2.#A Complete Visual Inspection Shall Be Performed To Identify Any Surface Defect. 3.#The Main Purpose Of The External Inspection Is To Check The Foundation, Shell, Accessories And Roof. 4.#The Observations Shall Concentrate On Leakage From Under The Bottom, Shel L Settlement, Verticality, Shell Deformations (Flat Spots, Buckles Or Bulges), Corrosion Spots Etc. 5.#The Observations Should Inclu De The Condition Of Paint Work, Safety Of Stairs, Platforms And Handrails And Proper Functioning Of Service Equipment. 6.#Inspection And Monitoring All Leak Detection Systems, Cathodic Protection Monitoring Equipment Or Other Monitoring Or Warning Systems W Hich May Be In Place At The Facility. 7.#Verify Wall Thickness Then A Suitable Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement Technique Shall Be A Pplied. 8.#When There Is Concern That There May Be Cracking In Welds Or In Other Parts Of The Tank Then The Defects Shall Be Verifie D By Applying An Appropriate Non-Destructive Testing Technique, E.G. Radiography Or Ultrasonic Test, Dye Penetrant Or Magnetic Parti Cle Examination. 9.#Surface Corrosion, Weld Defects Or Coating To An Extent, Which Could Affect The Integrity Of The Tank Shall Be I Nspected By Appropriate Methods. 10.#The Tank Shell Shall Be Inspected For Signs Of Deformation (Flat Spot, Buckle Or Bulge), Leakag E Or Corrosion Of Bottom Edge And Shell Plates. 11.#Stiffening Rings To Prevent Buckling Due To Wind Loads And High Thermal Stresses At Low Ambient (Winter) Temperatures Should Also Be Checked. 12.#Before Stepping Onto The Roof Of A Cone-Roof Tank A Visual Check S Hall Be Made For External Corrosion Or Holes. Use Hammer To Check The Roof Before Entering. 13.#If There Are Indications That Corros Ion Has Penetrated The Roof, Access To The Roof Shall Be Prohibited. 14.#The Following Elements Shall Be Inspected But Not Limited T O By An Appropriate Method To Ensure That They Are In Good Condition: ##Structures Supporting And Reinforcing The Tank ##Means Of A Ttachment To Tank System ##Any Service Equipment Like Level Gauges, Earth Lug, Breathers, Heat Detectors, Stairs Etc. ##Drains, Tren Ches, Drain Collection Pit And Interceptor Etc. ##Firefighting Accessories And System 15.#It Shall Also Include The Connected Pipel Ines And Bellows For Puncture Or Cracks. 16.#The Proper Functioning Of External Equipment Such As Vents, Pressure/Vacuum Valves, Gau Ging Devices And Water-Draining Equipment Shall Be Established. 17.#Flexible Joints And Fixed Hoses As Part Of The Filling And/Or Di Scharging System Shall Be Visually Inspected. 18.#Bolted Flanges, Caps To Valves At Bottom Outlets Shall Be Checked For Worn Threads And Damaged Gaskets. 19.#All Service Equipment Including Any Permanently Attached Hoses Shall Be Inspected In The Mounted Position For Correct Functioning. 20.#In Addition To A General Inspection Of The Steelwork Particular Attention Shall Be Paid To: Supports To Tank Shell, Intermediate Platforms And Hand Railing, Concrete Pedestal Supports For Stairways, The Cracks In The Tank Concrete Foun Dation 21.#The Part Of The Foundation Which Projects Beyond The Base Of The Tank (The Shoulder) Shall Be Inspected To Verify That Th E Tank Bottom Sealing Is In Good Condition As It Is Possible That Minor, Even Settlement Of A Tank Will Form A Channel Around The Pe Riphery Of The Tank Bottom In Which Rainwater Will Collect And Cause Serious Corrosion Of The Bottom-To-Shell Connection. 22.#The Sl Ope Of The Shoulder Of The Tank Concrete Foundation Should Ensure Good Drainage Of Rain Water. 23.#Dewa External Out Of Service Insp Ection Check List To Be Filled Addition To The Standard External Out Of Service Inspection Report. 24.#Dewa External Out Of Service Inspection Check List To Be Reviewed And Inform Dewa If Any Alteration/Up Gradation Is Required In Service Inspection Check List Doc Ument As Per Api Standard.
