Request for Information for Market Assessment of Chlorine Products for Household Drinking-Water Treatment in Nigeria Execution of Projects Date Added: October 1, 2026 Deadline: 30/10/2026 Category: General Supplies & Services Market Assessment of Chlorine Products for Household Drinking-Water Treatment in Nigeria UNICEF Nigeria is conducting a market assessment of chlorine-based products available in Nigeria that may potentially support Household Water Treatment (HWT) interventions, particularly for cholera prevention, preparedness and response. The assessment will help UNICEF understand the availability, affordability, geographic reach, quality and regulatory status of existing chlorine products, as well as the capacity of the local market to manufacture, supply, adapt or scale products that may be suitable for household drinking-water treatment. UNICEF invites manufacturers, importers, authorized distributors, water-treatment chemical suppliers, contract manufacturers and other companies with relevant chlorine-production or supply capabilities to respond. Companies whose products are not currently marketed for household drinking-water treatment, but which have relevant products or manufacturing capabilities, are also encouraged to participate. SCOPE OF THE MARKET ASSESSMENT UNICEF is interested in chlorine-based products including, but not limited to, sodium hypochlorite solutions, calcium hypochlorite products, sodium dichloroisocyanurate, chlorine tablets and other relevant chlorine-releasing compounds or formulations. RESPONSE CATEGORIES Respondents should clearly identify which of the following categories applies to each product or capability submitted: CATEGORY A EXISTING PRODUCTS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE IN NIGERIA: Products already manufactured, imported, distributed or commercially available in Nigeria that are approved, registered, marketed or otherwise supported for household drinking-water treatment, or that may warrant technical assessment for such use. CATEGORY B PRODUCTS OR MANUFACTURING CAPABILITIES THAT COULD BE ADAPTED OR DEVELOPED: Existing chlorine products not currently approved or marketed for HWT, or manufacturing capabilities that could be adapted to develop an appropriate product, subject to applicable technical, quality and regulatory requirements. INFORMATION REQUESTED For each relevant product currently manufactured, imported or distributed, respondents should provide information on: Product/brand name; manufacturer and country of manufacture; product type, chemical composition and active ingredient(s). Available chlorine concentration and details of additives, fragrances, colourants or other ingredients, where applicable. Intended and currently approved uses; pack sizes and packaging formats; shelf life and recommended storage conditions. For products intended, approved, registered or recommended for HWT: recommended dosage; volume of water treated per unit/pack; required contact time before consumption; expected Free Residual Chlorine (FRC) after the recommended contact time; dosing instructions for different water volumes and/or water-quality conditions, where applicable; and technical evidence supporting the recommended dosage and treatment performance. For each product submitted, provide evidence of applicable regulatory approvals, registrations, certifications and/or compliance with relevant national or international standards, including NAFDAC and SON requirements, where applicable. Respondents should clearly indicate whether the product is currently approved, registered or otherwise authorized in Nigeria for Household Water Treatment (HWT) and/or drinking-water disinfection, and provide supporting documentation. Where a product is indicated as food grade, respondents should provide the applicable Nigerian regulatory approval, registration, certification or standard confirming this status. Current market availability and geographic coverage across Nigeria, including distribution channels, retail/outlet reach and availability in rural, underserved or hard-to-reach areas. Current indicative wholesale and retail prices by pack size, minimum order quantities, volume-based pricing and significant regional price variations, where applicable. Indicative cost per litre of drinking water treated at the recommended dosage, where available. Typical replenishment/delivery lead time and key logistical constraints affecting distribution. MANUFACTURING AND SUPPLY CAPACITY Current monthly production capacity, approximate capacity utilization and maximum capacity achievable during increased or emergency demand. Major raw materials and whether locally sourced or imported; quality-control arrangements; batch-testing and product-release procedures; and ability to provide batch-specific Certificates of Analysis. Estimated timeframe and key constraints for scaling production. Importers and distributors should provide corresponding information on existing stockholding, replenishment capacity, import lead times and maximum monthly supply capacity. POTENTIAL ADAPTATION FOR HOUSEHOLD DRINKING-WATER TREATMENT This section applies primarily to Category B responses. Whether any existing product is currently manufactured, approved or marketed for household drinking-water treatment, with supporting documentation and instructions for use. Where not currently marketed for this purpose, whether the company is willing and technically capable of adapting an existing product or developing a product for household drinking-water treatment, subject to applicable technical and regulatory requirements. Ability to modify formulation/concentration, packaging, pack size, labelling, dosing instructions and quality-control arrangements, where required. Regulatory approvals, registrations, certifications and/or testing required in Nigeria before the adapted/developed product could be marketed or recommended for household drinking-water treatment, including the estimated pathway and timeframe for obtaining such approvals. Estimated adaptation timeframe; minimum production/offtake volumes; and other technical, regulatory, financial or market constraints. DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED General company-registration information does not need to be reproduced separately in the RFI response. The company profile and supporting registration documents should provide the relevant corporate information. Valid Certificate of Incorporation/registration document. Company profile describing relevant manufacturing, importation, distribution and/or water-treatment experience, including manufacturing facility, warehouse and distribution locations where applicable. Product specification or Technical Data Sheet (TDS). Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Recent Certificate of Analysis (CoA), where available. Relevant quality certificates, regulatory approvals/registrations and independent laboratory test reports, where available. For Category A products represented as suitable for HWT: evidence of the specific Nigerian regulatory approval/registration applicable to household drinking-water treatment or drinking-water disinfection, together with approved product labels, dosing instructions and supporting technical documentation. Photographs or copies of current product labels and packaging. A response addressing the product, market availability, affordability, manufacturing/supply capacity and potential adaptation information requested above. IMPORTANT NOTES This RFI is issued solely for market research and information-gathering purposes. Participation in this exercise does not constitute prequalification and does not guarantee inclusion in any future procurement process. UNICEF will not reimburse any costs incurred in preparing or submitting responses. UNICEF may contact respondents for clarification or additional information, where necessary.
