Background ASSABIL Association Culture for All is implementing the project "Women and Youth Leading in War and Peace: Storytelling and Media for Community Resilience in Lebanon" under the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). The project seeks to strengthen the leadership, communication, storytelling, emergency response, and peacebuilding capacities of women and youth from host and displaced communities. Through storytelling, participants will learn how to transform personal and community experiences into powerful narratives that promote resilience, dialogue, peacebuilding, and social cohesion. These stories will later contribute to documentary films, podcasts, digital media productions, and public awareness activities. Purpose of the Assignment The Storytelling Facilitator will design and deliver an interactive training enabling participants to document, structure, and communicate authentic stories related to war, displacement, humanitarian action, community resilience, and peacebuilding while respecting ethical storytelling principles. Objectives The training should enable participants to: Understand the role of storytelling in humanitarian action and peacebuilding. Identify meaningful stories within their communities. Transform lived experiences into compelling narratives. Develop interviewing and active listening skills. Apply ethical storytelling principles, including informed consent, confidentiality, and Do No Harm. Document stories respectfully while avoiding retraumatization. Produce success stories and community resilience stories. Prepare narratives suitable for documentaries, podcasts, digital media, and public advocacy. Strengthen communication, empathy, and leadership skills. Scope of Work Before the Training The facilitator shall: Develop a detailed training agenda. Prepare presentations, participant handbook, and exercises. Design practical storytelling activities. Coordinate with ASSABILs project team. During the Training Deliver participatory sessions covering topics including: Module 1 Storytelling for Social Change Why stories matter Storytelling in humanitarian and peacebuilding contexts Storytelling as advocacy Module 2 Finding the Story Identifying meaningful experiences Understanding audience Story selection Module 3 Narrative Structure Story arc Character development Conflict and transformation Emotional engagement Module 4 Interviewing Techniques Active listening Asking open-ended questions Recording testimonies Building trust Module 5 Ethical Storytelling Informed consent Confidentiality Protection of vulnerable persons Do No Harm Trauma-sensitive communication Module 6 Writing Human Stories Participants produce: Personal stories Community stories Success stories Human-interest stories Module 7 Preparing Stories for Media Documentary narration Podcast storytelling Social media storytelling Voice-over writing Storyboarding Module 8 Presentation and Feedback Participants present their stories and receive structured feedback. After the Training The facilitator shall submit: Final training report Attendance sheets Training materials Participant assignments Recommendations for documentary and podcast production teams Deliverables The consultant will provide: Training agenda Training methodology PowerPoint presentations Storytelling handbook Practical exercises Story templates Pre/Post evaluation tools Final narrative report Electronic copies of all materials Training Methodology The training should be highly participatory and include: Interactive presentations Group discussions Story circles Reflection exercises Pair interviews Writing workshops Peer review Case studies Practical storytelling assignments Presentation sessions Target Participants The training will target 45 women and youth (1835 years old) from Beirut and Mount Lebanon, including: Women and youth from host communities Displaced women and youth Volunteers Members of civil society organizations Community initiatives supporting displaced populations At least 60% of participants should be women. Duration Preparation: 2 working days Training delivery: 3 days Reporting: 1 working day Required Qualifications The consultant should possess: Education University degree in one or more of the following: Journalism Communications Media Creative Writing Literature Social Sciences Peace Studies Psychology Related disciplines Professional Experience Minimum 5 years of professional experience in: Storytelling Journalism Documentary development Humanitarian communication Creative writing Peacebuilding communication Community engagement Participatory facilitation Experience working with women, youth, displaced communities, or humanitarian organizations is highly desirable. Required Competencies The facilitator should demonstrate: Excellent facilitation skills Strong storytelling and narrative development expertise Trauma-informed facilitation Strong interpersonal communication Experience working with diverse communities Excellent report writing Fluency in Arabic Good command of English Expected Outputs At the completion of the assignment, participants will have: Developed original personal and community stories. Produced written stories that can be adapted into podcasts and documentaries. Strengthened their communication, leadership, and peacebuilding capacities. Gained practical skills in ethical storytelling and humanitarian communication. The facilitator will contribute directly to the projects objective of amplifying the voices of women and youth affected by conflict and displacement while strengthening community resilience through storytelling.
