Expression of Interest for Process Evaluation of Food and Nutrition Intervention Delivery by Zambia Social Protection Description: Zambia faces severe nutrition and food security challenges driven by macroeconomic pressures, climate shocks, and structural gender inequalities, particularly affecting women in agriculture and mothers with young children. In response, the Government of the Republic of Zambia, with World Bank support, is implementing the Girls Education and Womens Empowerment and Livelihood for Human Capital Project (GEWEL 2), a multi-sectoral, gender-responsive project that integrates food and nutrition security into social protection through four components, namely unconditional cash transfers; education bursaries for girls education; livelihoods support to women for productivity, and adaptive systems strengthening. The project pilots two nutrition-sensitive interventions: one providing climate-smart agriculture training and livelihood support to 2,500 women from cash transfer households, and another delivering nutrition top-ups, in-depth nutrition training, SMS messaging, and enhanced health services to 25,000 households with pregnant and lactating women and children in the first 1,000 days. These pilots are being rolled out in phases to test an inter-ministerial coordination model, generate operational lessons, and inform future national scale-up through a process evaluation focused on implementation, early outcomes, and cost-effectiveness.
