The Finnish Environmental Center Syke Is Acquiring A Service In Connection With Its Research That Is About To Start, Which Includes Meeting Pregnant Mothers And Babies Under One Year Old In The Reception Area, Collecting Data On A Form, Collecting Biological Samples (Blood, Nasal Mucus, Urine And Breast Milk) From Them, Receiving Samples Collected At Home, Sample Preprocessing And Other Tasks Related To The Collection And Short-Term Storage Of Biological Sample Material. The Birth Cohort Consists Of Approximately 500–650 Pregnant Mothers And Their Unborn Children. The Collection Of Samples Takes Place In The Area Of Uusimaas Municipalities. Most Likely The Municipalities Are Helsinki, Vantaa, Espoo, Kauniainen, Kirkkonummi. Changing Some Municipalities To Others Or Omitting Some Can Be Considered According To The Service Providers Area Of Operation. The Collection Of Samples Is Planned To Take Place Between September 1, 2026 And August 31, 2028. The Start May Be Delayed By A Few Months By The Service Provider Or Syke. The Collection Of Biological Samples Must Take Place In The Reception Room Or Rooms Located In Easily Accessible Central Places In The Research Area. There Must Also Be A Parking Space Near The Premises. The Facilities Must Have Appropriate Security Arrangements And Back-Up Systems Related To The Collection, Processing And Storage Of Samples. The Laboratory Equipment Required For The Study Must Be Available In The Reception Area Or In Its Immediate Vicinity. Before The Collection Of Biological Samples, Consent Documents Must Be Collected From The Subjects. They Must Be Collected With The Help Of An Electronic Service That Uses Strong Identification Or In Paper Form, In Which Case They Are Digitized In A Secure Data System. Each Mother-Child Pair Has A Total Of 4 Reception Visits. If The Costs Exceed The Research Budget, One Reception Visit Will Be Removed From The Subjects. The Following Samples Are Collected At The Reception:• Reception Visit During The Last Trimester Of Pregnancy:O Venous Blood From The Mothero Mucus Sample From The Nasal Mucosa From The Mother By Sucking On A Soft Sterile Paper Towel Urine Sample From The Mother• The Babys First Reception Visit At 1 Month Of Ageo Capillary Blood Sample From The Babys Heel Or Fingertipo Mucus Sample From The Nasal Mucosa From The Baby By Sucking On A Soft Sterile Paper Towel Breast Milk Sample From Mother• Babys Second Appointment At 3–4 Months Of Ageo Venous Blood Sample From Babya Nasal Mucosal Mucus Sample From Baby By Sucking On A Soft Sterile Piece Of Paper Breast Milk Sample From Mother• Babys Third Appointment At 9 Months Of Ageo Venous Blood Sample From Babyao Nasal Mucosal Mucus Sample From Baby By Sucking On A Soft Sterile Piece Of Paper Urine Sample From Baby Using A Diaper Soft, Absorbent Paper To Be Installed.Furthermore, A Dust Sample And A Stool Sample Collected By The Subject At Home Will Be Accepted At The Reception. During The Reception Visit During The Last Trimester Of Pregnancy, Instructions Will Be Given On The Collection Of Samples At Home And Filling In The Research Questionnaires. Research Questionnaires Are Filled Out In Sykes Redcap System, Where The Service Provider Provides A Link To The Research Subject. At Each Reception Visit, Information Is Also Collected With The Help Of A Few Questions. They, And Other Information About The Visit, Are Recorded In The Service Providers Secure System. Before All Collected Samples Are Transferred To A -80°C Freezer, You Must:• Separate The Plasma And Pbmc Cells From The Blood Sample• The Urine Sample Is Divided Into Two Aliquots.• The Breast Milk Sample Is Divided Into Two Aliquots.• The Dust Sample Is Divided Into Two Aliquots.• All Samples Are Marked With A Barcode That Can Be Used To Connect Them To The Pseudonym Of The Subject. The Sample Taker Must Have The Qualification Of A Nurse, Research Nurse Or Bioanalyst. All Collected Data Is Processed Only In Data-Secure Systems. Biological Samples Are Collected And Delivered Deep-Frozen To The Researchers At Kaaritalo In Viikki On A Regular Basis For Long-Term Storage. The Electronic Materials Are Delivered To The Researchers In A Secure Manner Upon Request And After The Collection Of The Materials Has Been Completed. The Service Provider Insures All Subjects.
