Age-Related Macular Degeneration (Amd) Is The Most Common Cause Of Blindness In Germany. One In Four People Over The Age Of 60 Will Be Affected By The Disease. In Germany Alone, Around 7 Million People Suffer From This Disease (~200 Million People Worldwide). In Amd, The Cone Photoreceptor Cells (Cone Prs), Which Are Important For Central Vision, Reading, Color Vision, And Face Recognition, Degenerate. Their Loss Leads To Severe Limitations And Significantly Reduces The Quality Of Life. There Are Two Forms Of Amd, And There Is Currently No Cure For Either. We Have Developed A Patented Process To Produce Cone Prs From Human Induced Stem Cells In Large Quantities And In A Short Time (<3 Weeks). By Overexpressing Three Transcription Factors In Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (Hipscs), We Can Generate 50% Cone Pr Progenitor Cells Within 10 Days. These Adherent Cells Are Currently Produced Using Standard Laboratory Procedures.
