Architectural And Related Services – Non-Open, Single-Phase, Open Space Planning Realization Competition With Idea Section | Redesign Of Europaplatz Nord, Berlin-Mitte. The Northern Europaplatz Is Located At The Interface Between Europacity And Berlin Central Station. The Space, Which Was Previously Only Used Temporarily, Is To Be Converted Into Permanent Use And Design. With The Redesign Of The Square, In Addition To Its Current Function As Part Of The Transport Hub For Public Transport, The Aim Is To Strengthen The Pedestrian Connection Between The Train Station And Europacity And To Create Open Spaces With A High Quality Of Stay Along The New Development. The Current Condition Of The Approximately 1 Hectare Northern Europaplatz Is Characterized By A Confusing Collection Of Various Mobility Functions And Construction Site Facilities In A Provisional Arrangement, Without Any Quality Of Stay. At The Same Time, The High And Complex Intensity Of Use As Well As The Completion Or Imminent Completion Of The Adjacent Buildings In Europacity Show The Need For A Redesign And Reorganization Of The Area In Order To Create A Space In Front Of Berlin Central Station That Is Appropriate For The Location And To Remedy The Existing Deficits. The Existing Functions And Uses Of The Square, Some Of Which Are Currently Only Temporary, Are To Be Reorganized And Integrated Into A Holistic Design Concept For The Square. Existing Design, Open Space Planning And Functional Deficits In The Square Should Be Remedied. The Square Forms The Hinge Between The Main Train Station And Europacity With A Very High Frequency And Presence For The Public As Well As A High Demand For Different Mobility Functions. For The Europacity High-Rise Buildings Bordering Europaplatz To The Northeast, There Is Also A Need To Design An Appropriate Forecourt As A Pre-Zone And Access To The Ec Zones. The Redesign Is Also Intended To Make An Effective Contribution To Climate Adaptation In The Inner-City Outdoor Area As Well As To Create A Representative City Square In Front Of The Main Train Station With Attractive Lounge Areas That Is Appropriate For The Location. The Competition Area Differentiates Between The Implementation Area (Square Area And Part Of The Adjacent Minna-Cauer-Straße) And The Idea Part I (Walking And Cycle Path Area On Invalidenstraße Adjacent To The Square). Part I Of The Ideas Is Intended To Take Into Account And, If Possible, Improve The Interface To Public Transport, Here In Particular With Bus Traffic On Or On Invalidenstrasse. Existing Points Of Conflict Between Cyclists, Pedestrians And People Waiting Should Be Resolved As Far As Possible. As Idea Part Ii, A Conceptual Design Of The Enclosure/Facades Of The Small Architecture For The Square Area Is To Be Created. Optionally, Following The Competition Process, A Design Guide Should Be Commissioned As A Basis For Further Planning And Implementation.
