Implemented by a consortium led by SNV, this $20 million program focuses on developing relevant skills, building resilient market systems, and addressing key barriers like limited access to finance and market information. With a strong emphasis on gender equity and social inclusion, YEA-R project will support youth, particularly in the horticulture and poultry sectors, to establish successful agribusinesses. In season C 2025, demonstration plots have been established in targeted districts to showcase good agricultural practices, climate-smart innovations, and improved technologies in horticulture. Building on the idea of imparting both practical and theoretical skills to group participants within 2 seasons, SNV is procuring inputs to be used in 2026B season for all demonstrations plots. This support to project participants will lead to the adoption of horticulture and poultry production practices and farm management on their respective farm and ensure sustainable work opportunities 1.3. Objectives, Expected outcomes and Target The main objective is to practically demonstrate improved horticultural practices and technologies through well-established demo plots, enabling project participants to learn by seeing, build confidence in adopting innovations, and ultimately increase productivity, income, and sustainable work opportunities. Goal and objectives 1.3.1. Specific objectives include: Entrepreneurship inspiration: The demo will serve as a platform to identify viable agribusiness opportunities across value chains (inputs, production, aggregation, marketing). Provide hands-on training to young agripreneurs on improved, climate-smart, and market-oriented agricultural practices. Showcase improved inputs, technologies, and farming models that increase productivity and resilience. Demonstrate clear yield, income, and quality benefits compared to traditional practices, encouraging replication by youth and communities. Use demo plots as proof of concept to negotiate land allocation, attract investment, and access inclusive financial products. Facilitate training, exchange visits, and mentorship among youth, cooperatives, and extension staff. Ensure equitable participation of young women and people with disabilities in learning and decision-making 1.3.2. Expected outcomes Increased adoption of improved practices: Project participants will replicate demonstrated technologies (improved seeds, integrated pest and disease management, production practices) on their own farms. Enhanced skills and knowledge: Project participants will gain hands-on experience in horticulture production, post-harvest handling, and climate-smart agriculture practices. Improved productivity and income: Demonstration plots serve as a business case, leading to higher yields, better-quality produce, stronger market linkages, and increased earnings for young agripreneurs.
