The City Of Altenburg Intends To Redesign The Station Forecourt And Wettinerstrasse. The Aim Is To Redesign The Lanes, Footpaths And Cycle Paths, Parking And Stopping Areas As Well As Green Spaces In Accordance With Monument Protection Regulations. The Station Forecourt Is The Gateway Into The City. Located In Front Of The Historic Train Station, It Opens Up To The City Center Via The Representative Wettinerstrasse. However, The Area Directly In Front Of The Station Building Is Privately Owned. The City Of Altenburg Is Also Aiming For New Planning For This Area. As Part Of The Competition, This Area Should Therefore Be Planned In Order To Ensure A Uniform Space Design. The Square Area Is Delimited By The Street Layout Of Wettinerstrasse Including The Stops Of The Central Public Transport Connection Point. The Opposite Side Of The Square Is Characterized By A Green Area, The Traditional Design Of Which Also Dates Back To The Early 20Th Century. The Green Area Was Significantly Transformed By The Construction Of The New Bus Station And The Construction Of Offenburger Allee. The Bus Station And Train Station As Well As The Forecourt Are Connected By An Underpass On The Northern Side Of The Square. The Redesign Should Be Based On The Traffic Concept Decided By The City Of Altenburg In 2023 And In Accordance With The Historical And Representative Significance And Monument Protection Requirements. The Aim Is To Develop A Contemporary, High-Quality Space And Traffic Area That Is Adapted To Traffic Needs And Takes Into Account The Requirements For Accessibility And Climate Adaptation (In The Sense Of The Sponge City Principle).
