Tenders Are Invited For Steel – Manufacture And Supply Of Conical Stainless Steel Bodies By Repulsing With Welding Without Filler To Obtain Anti-Implosion Covers For 20-Inch Photomultipliers For The Hyper-Kamiokande Experiment Within The Framework Of The Recovery, Transformation And Resilience Plan.
Steel – Manufacture And Supply Of Conical Stainless Steel Bodies By Repulsing With Welding Without Filler To Obtain Anti-Implosion Covers For 20-Inch Photomultipliers For The Hyper-Kamiokande Experiment Within The Framework Of The Recovery, Transformation And Resilience Plan.. Within The Framework Of Its Research Activity, The Lsc Participates In The International Project Hyper-Kamiokande (Hk), A New Generation Experiment Aimed At The Study Of Neutrinos, Proton Decay And Other Fundamental Phenomena In Particle Physics. Hk Constitutes The Evolution Of The Kamiokande And Super-Kamiokande Detectors, Whose Results Were Recognized With The Nobel Prize In Physics In 2002 And 2015 Respectively. The Hyper-Kamiokande Detector Will Be Built At A Depth Of Approximately 620 Meters Underground In The Town Of Kamioka, Japan. It Will Consist Of A Large Cylindrical Tank About 70 Meters In Diameter And 70 Meters High, Filled With Ultrapure Water, On Whose Walls Tens Of Thousands Of Photomultiplier Tubes (Pmts) Will Be Installed. These Detectors Record The Cherenkov Light Produced When Charged Particles, Such As Neutrinos, Interact With Water. Each Pmt Operates Under High Vacuum Conditions, And Due To The High Hydrostatic Pressure To Which They Are Subjected, Equivalent To A 70 Meter Water Column, There Is A Risk Of Implosion In The Event Of Spontaneous Failure Of Any Pmt. This Phenomenon, Which Occurs In Milliseconds, Can Generate A Shock Wave Capable Of Damaging Adjacent Pmts And Compromising The Integrity Of The Experiment. To Mitigate This Risk, The Design Of The Experiment Incorporates An Anti-Implosion Protective Cover Composed Of Two Main Elements: A Dome Made Of Polymethylmethacrylate (Pmma) Material, Highly Transparent To Ultraviolet Light, And A Conical Stainless Steel Body, Which Structurally Reinforces The Assembly And Contributes To Confining The Shock Wave In The Event Of Implosion. Hyper-Kamiokande Is Designed To Measure Cp Violation In The Leptonic Sector With Unprecedented Precision, Which Could Help Understand The Origin Of Matter In The Universe. To Guarantee The Success Of The Experiment, It Is Essential To Ensure The Mechanical And Functional Integrity Of The More Than 20,000 Photomultiplier Tubes. In This Context, It Is Essential To Manufacture Conical Stainless Steel Bodies With Low Radiopurity Processes And Welding Without Filler Material, Which Ensure Sufficient Structural Resistance To Contain The Shock Wave Of An Eventual Implosion, A Reduced Residual Magnetism That Does Not Interfere With The Functionality Of The Pmts, And A Highly Precise Geometric Design That Ensures Correct Coupling With The Pmma Domes. For All Of The Above, It Is Considered Necessary To Supply The Manufacturing Of Conical Stainless Steel Bodies By Grinding, Intended For The Production Of Anti-Implosion Protective Covers For The 20-Inch Photomultipliers Of The Hyper-Kamiokande Experiment.
