The National Library Of Greece (Nbl) Manages An Important Network Infrastructure That Serves Critical Functions, Such As The Operation Of Information Systems, Digitization Of Material, And The Provision Of Access To Digital Services And Data. This Infrastructure, However, Operates In A Fragmented And Geographically Separated Network, Which Includes Three (3) Different Buildings: The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (Snfcc), The Vallianio Megaro And The Building In Botaniko. The Main Data Center Of Ebe Operates In The Vallianios Megaro, In An Unsuitable Space For The Orderly And Safe Operation Of A Modern Data Center. Specifically: Physical Infrastructure Problems: The Space Does Not Have Sufficient Insulation And Is Not Designed To Withstand The Temperature, Humidity Or Vibration Requirements Needed For The Safety Of The Systems. Limited Space: The Space Is Too Small To Accommodate The Required Equipment And Leaves No Room For Expansion. Absence Of Modern Air Conditioning And Cooling Systems: A Data Center Requires Stable Temperatures For The Servers To Operate. Deficiencies In Proper Cooling Systems Can Endanger Equipment. Inadequate Electricity: The Infrastructure Does Not Provide A Stable And Reliable Power Supply. Lack Of Physical Security: The Site Is Vulnerable To Risks, Such As Floods, Fires, Or Earthquakes, Without Having Adequate Protection Systems. Networking Limitations: Network Speeds And Connectivity Required To Handle Large Amounts Of Data Are Not Supported. Compliance Issues: The Space Does Not Meet International Standards For The Operation Of A Data Center, Such As E.G. The Uptime Institutes Tier Standard. The Servers Operating There Are Out Of Official Agency Warranty And Are Tending To The Limit Of Their Operational Life Given The Workload, Which Increases The Risks Of Failures And Service Interruptions. At The Same Time, In The Snfcc There Is A Small Infrastructure Of Ebe, With Limited Servers And A Ceph-Type Storage System, Which Is Not Sufficient To Cover The Growing Needs Of Ebe In Computing Power And Storage Space, While A Modern Data Center Is Available For Use. Based On The Above, It Becomes Imperative And Urgent To Upgrade The Infrastructure Of The Ebe In Servers And Digital Data Storage And The Operation Of The Data Center At The Snfcc As The Main Data Center Of The Ebe. The Need Includes The Supply Of New Servers And A Storage System, As Well As The Complete Transfer Of Services And Data From Vallianio To The Snfcc. The New Infrastructure Will Enable The Creation Of A Modern Production Environment At The Snfcc, Which Will Be Able To Meet The Ever-Increasing Demands Of Ebe.
