The transaction technical assistance (TA) is designed to complement a proposed loan of up to $20 million in MNT equivalent to APU Dairy LLC (APU Dairy) for the APU Dairy Inclusive Production Expansion Project in Mongolia. The investment will finance capacity expansion and working capital to enable sustainable raw milk procurement and dairy production.
The TA will build the capacity of [300] nomadic herders and herder cooperatives in [Batsumber, Bayangol and Partizan ] in Mongolia (of which at least [150 (50%)] are women) to (i) develop at least [3] cooperatives to suite herder needs and promote climate resilience through sustainable herd and pasture management (Output 1); (ii) capacity build capacity in climate smart herd management, including fodder growth, pasture use, milk production and herd size and animal distribution (Output 2); and (iii) promote financial and social development through capacity building in financial literacy, gender quality, disability awareness and the importance of medical maintenance and treatment. Both heads of herding families (man and woman) will be included in all training, consistent with best practices that show that when co-heads are targeted, joint adoption of recommended practices and inputs increases, while the male co-heads unilateral decision-making is reduced. Women will comprise at least 50% of the training team utilized to deliver outputs 1, 2 and 3. The capacity building targets for women will support boosting womens participation in agriculture and accelerate gender equality by improving their financial and technical capabilities. |
