These are data for the month of August from the report “Main indicators of the electricity sector at the national level” from the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
The Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (MINEM) has released the total data on electricity production recorded in the country in August of this year, which includes Isolated Systems and the National Interconnected Electrical System (SEIN).
According to the report “ Main indicators of the electricity sector at national level ”, of the total of 5,350 GWh generated during the aforementioned month, 111 GWh corresponded to photovoltaic sources, a 2.07% share, and equivalent to 27% more than the same month last year.
In the case of wind power, these figures stand at 413 GWh generated, a 7.72% share, and a 129% increase compared to August 2023.
If the electricity generation from bagasse and biogas is added to the aforementioned data, it can be concluded that, as a whole, the non-conventional renewable energy resources (RER) reached a production of 574 GWh, which means a 10.7% share, which in turn represents an increase of 74% over what was recorded in the same month of 2023.
It can be added that in August 2023, non-conventional RERs were responsible for 6.3% of electricity generation.
The report also indicates that of the total registered, 5,203 GWh (97%) corresponded to the electricity market, while 148 GWh (3%) are placed as self-generated energy for the use of industrial, mining and oil companies, among others.
To complete, it is worth mentioning that while hydroelectric plants accumulated 2,037 GWh (38%) - 17% more than what was generated in August 2023 -, thermal units that only use natural gas as a resource produced 2,626 GWh (49%) - 8% less than in that month last year. |
