The Seventh Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) concluded today with a successful three-day summit in New Delhi, bringing together delegates from around the globe to discuss sustainable solar energy initiatives. The final day of the session featured a visit to an agrivoltaic farm in Najafgarh, organized to demonstrate India’s innovations in agrivoltaic technology—an approach that combines agriculture with solar energy production on the same land.
Agrivoltaic farming, a growing practice in renewable energy, enables land to be used simultaneously for crop cultivation and solar energy generation, maximizing productivity while conserving resources. During the visit, delegates from 120 Member and Signatory Countries witnessed firsthand the viability and environmental benefits of these systems. Uganda’s Minister of State for Energy, Okaasai Opolot, praised the project, calling India an “innovative country” and expressing his admiration for the country’s approach to agriculture and energy production. Speaking to Akashvani News, Opolot remarked, “It is inspiring to see crops growing alongside solar panels on the same land.”
Other international delegates shared similar sentiments. A representative from the Democratic Republic of Congo conveyed his appreciation for the ISA assembly, noting his admiration for India’s efficient and sustainable use of energy resources.
The ISA, headquartered in India, has worked diligently to establish solar power as a key component of the global transition to a carbon-neutral future. Under the leadership of India as president and France as co-president, this year’s session emphasized themes of energy access, security, and transition, in line with ISA’s mission to collaborate with governments worldwide to expand sustainable energy access.
Attendees included ministers, mission heads, partner organizations, and stakeholders focused on solar energy solutions to promote long-term environmental and economic stability. Throughout the event, sessions highlighted ISA’s key initiatives, including efforts to improve global energy access and security, particularly for developing nations, through sustainable solar energy. |
