In a significant step toward advancing India’s LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) Mission and the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), key industry leaders and sustainability experts gathered for the Curtain Raiser to the Summit on Sustainability. Held on October 18, 2024, at Hotel Kohinoor Continental, Mumbai, the event saw participation from organizations including IIT Madras, IGBC Mumbai Chapter, Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI), Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA), and AND Sustainability.
The collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices at both grassroots and corporate levels, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable development amid rising global challenges such as floods, forest fires, and hurricanes.
The event featured notable speakers including Dr. Mala Singh, Chairperson, IGBC Mumbai Chapter; Sathvik Batte, Co-Founder, Marichin Sustainables; Biren Vora, Director, Ekaagra Social & Microfinance Foundation; Rushva Parihar, Founder, Improving Lives Foundation; Sharang Ambadkar, CEO, Feel Good EcoNurture LLP; and Dr. Nikhil Tambe, CEO, Energy Consortium, IIT Madras. They shared insights on how their efforts are transforming sustainability from a concept into an actionable framework.
Himakshi Singh, spokesperson for the event, emphasized the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in driving sustainable innovation, stating, “The Summit on Sustainability is designed to foster long-term engagement and tangible actions that support the achievement of the SDGs.”
Dr. Nikhil Tambe added, “The upcoming summit will be a catalyst for sustained dialogue and innovation aimed at achieving a greener future.”
The event also highlighted the growing importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance. Ganesh Chari, Founder of Neshaju Envirotech, stressed the need for stronger ESG frameworks in light of escalating climate crises. Prof. Anuradda Ganesh, Adjunct Faculty at IIT Madras, emphasized the importance of industry compliance with new ESG reporting standards, particularly in areas such as emission tracking and resource efficiency.The Summit on Sustainability, scheduled for November 18, 2024, will bring together over 200 delegates and feature discussions on topics such as Corporate Responsibility in Reversing Climate Change, Circular Economy, ESG Compliance, and Green Financing. High-profile speakers will include Ramveer Tanwar (Pondman of India), Smita Ram (Co-Founder, Rang De Foundation), and Prof. Indumathi Nambi (IIT Madras).
The summit aims to create actionable pathways for achieving sustainability goals across sectors, with a focus on fostering long-term collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers. |
