Work Detail Belgium’s Smulders has completed the load out of the transition pieces (TPs) for EnBW’s He Dreiht offshore wind farm at its yard in Newcastle, UK. The company completed the load out of the last TPs two weeks ago. Each unit has nearly a diameter of 9 metres and weighs 660 tonnes. All TPs were transported to Eemshaven, the Netherlands, for the offshore installation campaign of EnBW in cooperation with Heerema Marine Contractors. The first TPs were transported from Smulders’ yard in Hoboken, Belgium, to Newcastle in May 2023. On behalf of EnBW, the Sif-Smulders joint venture manufactured the 64 transition pieces for the He Dreiht offshore wind project in the German North Sea. The units are installed on top of monopiles that are delivered by Steelwind Nordenham, which received an order from the developer of the project in May 2022. The Netherlands-headquartered Heerema already installed the first three monopile foundations and transition pieces at the He Dreiht offshore wind farm site, located approximately 85 kilometres northwest of Borkum and about 110 kilometres west of Heligoland. In order to achieve the highest level of noise reduction to protect life below water, Heerema uses the double-walled noise mitigation template specifically designed for this project – the T-NMS-10000, according to the company. The monopile foundations will support Vestas’ flagship V236-15.0 MW wind turbines. When completed, the He Dreiht offshore wind farm is expected to have a capacity of over 960 MW, providing renewable energy for approximately 1.1 million households.
