L&T Energy - Power, a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), has secured a significant engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract from West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited. The project, a vital step towards environmental sustainability, focuses on the installation of wet flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) systems for a thermal power plant located in Sagardighi, West Bengal.
This ambitious initiative aims to equip the thermal power plant at Sagardighi with three FGD absorbers that will serve four thermal power units, comprising two 300 MW units and two 500 MW units. Notably, this marks L&Ts inaugural venture into the implementation of FGD systems in collaboration with a state-owned power utility.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, has mandated the integration of FGD systems into both existing and upcoming thermal power plants as part of efforts to mitigate sulphur dioxide emissions. This order not only underscores L&Ts commitment to environmental responsibility but also propels the company into a position capable of executing FGD projects for thermal plants with a combined capacity exceeding 19 GW.
Speaking on this significant milestone, L&T Energys spokesperson stated, "We are honored to partner with West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited for this crucial project. It not only aligns with the governments sustainability goals but also reflects our dedication to pioneering innovative solutions in the power sector."
The implementation of FGD systems will play a pivotal role in reducing harmful emissions, contributing to cleaner and more sustainable energy generation in the region. L&T Energy – Powers expertise in executing complex EPC projects positions them well to deliver on this critical environmental initiative. |
