The project will be constructed in two phases and WAJ plans to tender for the procurement of a design, build and operate (DBO) contract for Phase 1. Phase 1 will include the construction of the following: New wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) rated for an annual average flow of 150,000m3 /d. Expansion of the pretreatment unit at an existing pump station to meet a flow of 18,000m3 /h. New inline hydropower turbine and Combined Heat and Power system - CHP system for onsite generation of more than 80% of the plant electricity needs. Approximately 12 km of a new 1600/1700mm conveyor pipeline The environmental and social impact assessment, preliminary design and procurement services for the Project are being developed and funded by USAID under the Building Water Infrastructure (BWI) Project.
